    For a cheap FPGA development board, you may have a look at:
    https://www.digilentinc.com/Sales/Product.cfm?Prod=S3BOARD
    They also have the 400kgate and 1000kgate versions, for an extra
    20 to 60 bucks.

    I would say that for a beginner, this board has enough fire power
    from a features/price ratio point of view ... :)
