Subject: [oc] Free Place & Route, SW platform proposal
http://www.eclipse.org
this is what I would choose and recommend for the initial environment
it is Java based framework for creating frameworks and development
environments if summarized very shortly. It is the actual code-base
of IBM official products, so it is high quality and tested.
All the PR tools can be implemened as Eclipse workspaces, views
and plugins. Its doable, requires some java gurus to jump in, but
defenetly possible. An actually amazingly easy. Eclipse can be
fully 'branded' to be anything, so as the original distribution
is a mainly a Java (and C) desing environment, a special branding
could be FPGA design environment.
I have done lots of research to find solution (for IDE platform) and
Eclipse is the my only choice. Netbeans is almost only for Java
and DreamCompany products are abondoned because the developers
now work for Protel (i.e. enhancing Protel DXP, etc).
JBits is Java, Eclipse is very capable to handle java based desings
so it should be easy to add some JBits based workspace to Eclipse.
This would give at least very good looking FPGA environment with
almost no coding (maybe 20KB of java code for the Eclipse plugin)
That could be a start to add more functionality?
just idea, and suggestion for one way how to start.
JERC6K includes source code of JBits grand-dad, and also java sources
of grand-dad of Webscope (eg chip viewer) JERC6K sources can not
be directly used as they only work with XC6200 hardware (required
to run webscope) but some code could be borrowed form there
for chipviewer maybe.
There are JBits and Java gurus here, so what about this?
It could be a start, and doesnt require much time, a few weeks
work maybe - from people who know Java, JBits, and Eclipse internals.
(otherwise it the learning curve is longer).
